Geochemistry of Amphibolites in Akom II, Nyong Series, North Western Border of the Congo Craton, South Cameroon

The garnet amphibolites, from the Akom II area in Archaean Congo Craton, were examined to determine geochemical affinity and tectonic environment. study uses mineral assemblages whole-rock geochemistry identify setting of amphibolites associated with monzogabbro pyroxenites. studied rocks are amphibolites. Mineralogically, contain hornblende + plagioclase ± quartz epidote apatite opaque, indicating that they could have been formed a basic igneous protolith. signature indicates tholeiitic nature. They similar metamorphosed equivalents ocean island basalts (OIB), characteristics typical Volcanic Arc-Basalt (VAB). geotectonic diagrams confirm nature these High field strength elements ratios (Nb/Ta) range 14-16, which corresponds Arc Basalt primitive mantle normalized patterns show negative anomalies Ta Ti suggesting characteristic subduction zone, consequently existence suture zone area. Â
